Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an British and American sitar player. She also sings. She was the youngest and first female to win the British House of Commons Shield she's had Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian of Indian descent to perform live and to act as a host at the ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's most promising stars on the sitar. She is both the daughter and student of Ravi Shankar. She spent her childhood bouncing around from London in the UK to New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. In 1999, she completed her high school studies within Encinitas CA. Anouskha continues to have a bright career in recording and performing despite being young. Since quite some time, she has been performing regularly with her father. She made Anourag her debut album on her own in 1998. The following year, she released the Grammy nominated Live on stage at Carnegie Hall. The stage work she has done is vast as she has performed in most of the world's major venues. Anoushka Shankar's career is not limited to performing in music. Bapi The Love of My Live is her 2002 book, which was a tribute to Ravi Shankar. In 2003 she starred as an Bharat natyam young dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shakar's professional career will continue to grow and develop. We can look at seeing lots of different things that she does. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent much of her childhood in London and Delhi then moving to California where she went to high school. Anoushka Shankar started her musical studies when she was nine. A few years later she played her first sitar debut in Delhi at her father's 75th birthday party. Anoushka gained a variety of valuable experiences when she accompanied her father when he toured the world. The tour included appearances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and recording with George Harrison. Her talent and musicality were recognised by British parliament as the best at Asian Arts.
